Results of first Smart Otaniemi pilots presented at WDBE 2020

In the Smart Otaniemi partner session at WDBE main event on 29 September, the first Smart Otaniemi pilots are in the limelight. As the time is not favorable for face-to-face gatherings, the seminar is, amongst other things, serving as a platform for sharing the results and celebrating milestones achieved during the two-year piloting period.

Smart Otaniemi project manager Ismo Heimonen sees the WDBE event as a great opportunity for demonstrating Smart Otaniemi to a wide audience:

– Virtual WDBE event is an excellent way to present Smart Otaniemi and to spread the word in a safe yet professional setting, Heimonen says, and continues:

– During this year, we have gained a lot of experience of different webinars, remote workshops and other virtual events, and that sets the bar high. We believe that in WDBE we can provide a truly comprehensive virtual experience for our audience.

WDBE 2020 is organised by KIRAHub and Finnish Association for Civil Engineers (RIL ry). The annually changing co-organizers of this years’ event are Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication, Estonian Digital Construction Cluster and Ministry of the Environment of Finland. The partners include YIT, Platform of Trust, Helsinki Business Hub, Dutch Embassy, Smart Otaniemi, DiCtion project, Life EconomisE project, Twin Value project, City of Tallinn and City of Helsinki. The main event program includes collaborative sessions, workshops, matchmaking opportunities as well as keynotes from international professionals, such as Jakob Strømann-Andersen from Henning Larsen and Kathrin Dörfler from TU Munich.

During the main event, Smart Otaniemi will serve the audience informative insights on research and development highlights of the pilots, as well as a glimpse of the future of Smart Otaniemi. The leading idea of Smart Otaniemi piloting work is to utilize the achieved results in an open and forward-looking manner. As the first pilots are now ready, it is time to see what can be built on the foundation laid in the first phase. One thing is sure: the goals are getting more and more ambitious, and good groundwork has speeded the processes to a next level.
